The ECF supports Culture Action Europe as it strives to engage a broader cultural community in debate and advocacy on the European Union's role in relation to culture and transnational cultural cooperation.
The strategic aims of the partnership are the development of a cultural strategy for Europe, and the mobilisation of cultural actors and politicians on topical European issues such as EU funding for culture, and the Year of Intercultural Dialogue in 2008.
The partnership encompasses joint campaigns such as '70 cents for culture', and initiatives such as public hearings, advocacy actions, mapping exercises. From 2006 to 2008, there is a special emphasis on the exploration of cultural diversity.
Culture Action Europe is also a key stakeholder of the LabforCulture.
Through its support, ECF wishes to strengthen Culture Action Europe's position as a professional umbrella platform of European cultural networks, and as a Brussels-based advocacy organisation for culture.
The ECF gives funding to and is in partnership with the European Forum for the Arts and the Heritage (Culture Action Europe. We work with them on campaigns, such as the 70 cents, which aimed to increase the European budget for culture.
In 2006 the ECF has funded the development of Culture Action Europe´s newsletter which reports on on culture relevant policy issues from the EU. Distributed 10 times a year to over 6,000 individuals and organizations across the cultural sector in Europe and beyond, it combines first hand reportage and analysis of events in Brussels and within the institutions of the European Union.
These include sessions of the European Parliament's Culture Committee, meetings of Culture ministers under the EU presidency, legislative developments concerning relevant funding programmes other policy issues affecting the cultural sector.
The Culture Action Europe newsletter also provides news on Culture Action Europe's advocacy activities, news from the wider EU NGO community and from Culture Action Europe's member organisations. Opinionated and authoritative, the Culture Action Europe newsletter is a must-read for anyone following public policy in the European cultural community.
