People & Projects

We have the great opportunity to work with fascinating people involved in culture across Europe and beyond.

In this section we want to portrait some of them, to share their work, their ambition, their dreams, their visions.

Alongside our cultural policy work in East Europe we wanted to broaden our insights in the contemporary cultural scene in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. With commissioned articles from our media partner  Café Babel we wanted to portrait people active in different cultural areas.

I. A New Wave of Moldovan Theatre Rushing into Shore, by Damien Dubuc, freelance journalist, Café Babel

Great visuals from photographer Andrea Davoust and Damien Dubuc's revealing article give fresh insight into Moldova's contemporary theatre scene. Damien describes his encounters with many of the scene's key personalities. They discuss their work and their personal visions of the country's possibilities and limitations as well as its relations with Europe and Russia. 'Is Europe then a way out, a way for young Moldovan artists to reach an audience? Mihai Fusu hesitates, seems to choose his words carefully and then says bluntly: "The quality of the population has dropped. The people who understood what culture is have gone abroad."' II. Ukraine's new rock'n'roll literature
At the ECF we like to look at regions in and beyond Europe from various angles, so that we can provide diverse information about complex contexts. A good example is this recent article by Prune. We commissioned Prune's article, Ukraine's new rock'n'roll literature. Prune interviewed some amazing people, and their stories give a valuable insight into the very active literature scene in the country, and much else. Strong photo portraits of those interviewed and the cult spots in Ukraine accompany the article.
